Padella in Southwark

19th May 2016

Fantastic New Pasta Restaurant in Southwark

No need for a Rick Stein ‘Long Weekend’ here. For authentic pasta dishes look no further than Padella at 6 Southwark Street in Borough Market, London. From the moment our Bruschetta arrived we knew it was going to be good and happily it only got better and better.

A smoked eel tagliatelle with cream and Amalfi lemon was beautifully balanced in flavour and not too rich – simple, unfussy and a beautiful combination of flavours. The star of the show was undoubtedly the giant ravioli filled with ricotta and served in unctuous sage butter. The balance of thin, fresh, comforting pasta puffs lightly filled with ricotta in a silky sauce was superb and perfectly seasoned.

Desserts of a chocolate and almond tart were simply delicious and the perfect end to a meal which typified what simple great eating should be.

We did have to queue for about an hour to get in, but then everything good in life is worth waiting for. The guy at the door was so helpful and friendly, and we made some good new friends in the queue.
